Camp Spirit Update:

March 13, 2005

Camp Spirit:

Camp Spirit has come to an end...what a fun time! It was such a good experience to do things a little differently for Lent for these kids! Hopefully the "Fruit" seeds have been planted and will continue to grow for the rest of their lives! I want to thank all the camp counselors. Their preparation and positive attitudes made this program work! Barbara Craven, Nancy Carson, Denise Farmer, and Beth Macaulay. Hats off to these ladies...great job!

On average, the camp had 8 Spiriteers! Here's a list of those who attended:
Spencer Carson
Barton Carson
Keith Stanley
Kelli Stanley
Ryan Stanley
Patrick (Keith and Kelli's cousin!)
Rachel Keller
Ashleigh Corrigan
Blake Steen
Maddie Steen
Zachary Macaulay
Jonathon Avery
Anna Ridgeway
Bryce Downey
Presley Thomas

Pretty long list! I think that covers everyone! Not only St. Thomas kids but their friends and relatives, too! Great program...great job by ALL!

In Christ's Name,
Denyse Steen

Camp Spirit is going strong! The children are really enjoying these lessons on the Fruit of the Spirit! They have a better grasp of TRUE love, joy, peace, patients, kindness, and goodness.

The activities the counselors are using to teach the children are clever. For example, to help the children understand peace better, the counselor had the kids create paper airplanes and write one of their worries on the wing of the plane. (One child was worried for her brother. Another was worried about school.) They went to the courtyard and held their worries close. All together they tossed their planes into the air, letting go of their worries. This demonstrated to them if you trust in God and give him your worries; all you are left with is peace. It was well received…who knew the children would ever be allowed to make paper airplanes at church!

During the next few weeks of Lent the children will be learning faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Lessons not to be missed! Come and join us during this very spirit-filled time! Please check out the pictures posted on this site under "CURRENT EVENTS" or "SUNDAY SCHOOL SCOOP."
