WE HAVE INVITED TWO GREAT SPEAKERS
FOR OUR 2003 "GREAT THURSDAYS"
LENTEN PROGRAMS

MRS. TAMAR MYERS
TO BE THE FIRST SPEAKER
FOR OUR "GREAT THURSDAYS"
LENTEN PROGRAMS

Mrs. Tamar Myers will speak the first three Thursdays, March 13th, 20th, and 27th.  Mrs. Myers will lead us under the theme "In the Footsteps of Moses".  She is a brilliant student and scholar of the history of Judaism and Jewish life.  Her time will begin with "Her Story", beginning as the daughter of a missionary family in Africa.  For the first 15 years of her life, she lived with her missionary parents in the Belgian Congo.  Her family managed to peacefully coexist with a tribe of headhunters.  In 1964 when things got too dangerous, she and her family returned to the United States.  Later she and her husband converted to Orthodox Judaism and more recently left the Jewish Faith and returned to her Christian roots as Episcopalians.
Some other subjects she will cover will be the meaning of SABBATH, the Jewish home and home life, and helping us to better understand and interpret the Jewish scriptures (OLD TESTAMENT) since they are the very foundation and roots of our Christian Faith.
This should be very interesting and educational.  Mrs. Myers received "The Order of the Palmetto", an award given by the Governor of South Carolina and Mrs. Myers is an accomplished author of mystery novels.
Please plan to join us at 6:00PM and bring your friends. Also bring a covered dish for the covered disk supper.

DR. LESTER PITTMAN
WILL BE THE SECOND SPEAKER
FOR OUR "GREAT THURSDAYS"
LENTEN PROGRAMS

Dr. Lester Pittman will speak on April 3rd and and April 10th.  The title of Mr. Pittman's talks will be "Understanding Islam", during which he will share some basic information about the Islam and Muslims.
Dr. Pittman is a native of South Carolina.  After graduating from the Citadel, he spent 20 years as a Navigator in the Air Force.  He completed his education with a doctorate in history from the University of Virginia.
Currently, Dr. Pittman uses his knowledge as a professor of history at Trident Technical College.  His history specialties include British Church History, the history of Palestine, Israel, and Jerusalem, Christianity and Islam in the Middle East.
You can expect him to explain what we have in common as well as the differences between the Christian Gospel and the message of the Prophet Muhammed.  He will correct some misperceptions that we in the West have about Islam.  This may help all of us to better understand Arab-Israel tensions.
His talks should be very informative, especially with the current events in the Middle East.  Don't miss this chance to get a better knowledge of the facts that will help us understand our spiritual differences and therefore help us in our spiritual journey.
